Galatians 6:1-2“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (ESV)

Colossians 1:28-29“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.” (ESV)

Colossians 3:16“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (ESV)

a Biblical way
of dealing with life's problems

These verses are the driving force behind the reappearance of biblical counseling. Biblical counseling seeks to come alongside others and help bear their burdens by bringing them to Scripture so that we learn God’s way of responding. It is only when we respond to life God’s way that we can find true and lasting solutions to the challenges we face.

Who we are

Springfield Center of Biblical Counseling, LLC (SCBC) is a non-profit ministry of Southern View Chapel and is one way the church fulfills its mission, “Learning Truth, Living Truth.”

As a counseling ministry, our goal is to live out the truth that we learn from God’s word and to help others learn and live that same truth as Galatians 6:1-2 teaches, “Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

What we believe

We believe that the Bible is sufficient for all matters of life and godliness; therefore, it is the only source of authority in our counseling.

We believe that true biblical counseling is specialized discipleship that focuses on areas of life where someone is not living like Christ and helps them to start living like Christ in those areas.

We believe that true biblical counseling cannot be done apart from the local church because Christ established the leadership of the local church as those who “keep watch over your souls” (Hebrews 13:17). Christ also established within the local church disciplinary measures to help people follow through in obedience to Scripture.

We believe that Scripture commands the local church to be in the ministry of counseling others. Because of this, we do not charge a fee for our counseling.

Qualifications of our counselors

The Elder Board of Southern View Chapel first approves all potential counselors for SCBC and then they go through training and certification by the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). The process of certification includes a set level of educational training in biblical counseling, passing both a theological exam and a counseling exam, and many hours of counseling under the direct supervision of ACBC.

November 5 & December 3, 2022 | 8am – 5pm

This training will address 14 different case studies that one could encounter in counseling. Together, we will walk through each scenario and discuss any necessary steps needed. We will begin by looking at a Personal Data Inventory form, from which we will formulate follow-up questions that are to be asked in during the counseling session. We will discuss:

  • What is the presented problem?
  • What is the root problem?
  • How to approach the case?
  • How and what homework to give after counseling sessions
  • What is the end goal?

We will wrap each case up with the instructor sharing his plan. This class will be primarily a discussion of how to counsel each case. Join us and learn with the other counselors as we share mutual ideas and insight.
